Port of Ravenna: an underwater channel for the Ultra Wideband

Fotografie di alcuni momenti degli scavi

The works for the underwater crossing of the Candiano channel have been completed, within the project for the Utra Wideband (UWB) infrastructures at the Port of Ravenna and the surrounding areas, aimed at the almost total coverage of the area, in conjunction with the FTTH connection of all the Access Points operating sites (Colacem, Fabbrica Vecchia, Foca Monaca, Nodo Sapir, Piloti, Ponte Mobile, Torre Bunge, Torre IFA, Torre PIR, Via Squero).

The project foresaw the overcoming of logistic difficulties through the crossing of the Candiano channel, qualifying the area of Marina di Ravenna and Porto Corsini with UWB infrastructrures, and the laying of a PEAD DN200 PN25 PE100 pipeline for about 400 meters, performed with the technique of controlled horizontal drilling. The drilling of the land affected by the laying of the pipeline, consisting of sequences of soils with medium-fine grain size alternating sand and clayey silts and with different degrees of consistency, was completed using a Midi-rig type equipment with thrust power of about 50Ton, torque not less than 1.600kgm and high pressure fluid pumps not less than 700l/min; the drilling was guided through a MGS type system capable of returning in real time the three-dimensional points of passage. The work uses a high-capacity cable (144fo) and allows the systemization of the first intervention carried out in 2016, completing a physical fiber optic ring that ensures the architectural redundancy necessary to achieve maximum reliability in terms of services provided.

The infrastructure thus enhances the enabling in UWB of two areas, Guardiano Nord e Guardiano Sud, geographically disadvantaged by the presence of the Candiano channel. The total investment of the intervention, which is estimated to enable more than 200 companies to connect to FTTH, is 700K€.
