A sustainable water management also requires the ability to better measure it.

This idea gave rise to the collaboration between Lepida and EmiliAmbiente, a public company that manages the Integrated Water Service in the Bassa Ovest territory of the Province of Parma. 

Launched in 2024, the project provides Lepida's IoT infrastructure to introduce over 39.000 smart metering meters in the 11 municipalities it serves: from Busseto to Fidenza, from Colorno to Sissa Trecasali.

The goal is to make consumption readings more accurate and facilitate the identification of hidden losses.

LoRaWAN gateways are already operational in Fontanellato, Salsomaggiore Terme, and Fidenza, while extensions to Soragna and Busseto are planned.

As of December 31st 2025, 18.865 meters were installed and operational. 

In municipalities where the system is fully operational, the most significant result consists in the ability to update the water balance more frequently, improving resource management and timely leak detection, even on private networks.
